LGBTQIA+: The Community's Rights
The LGBTQIA+ community has achieved long strides in its fight for equality and legitimacy in Indian society. Section 377 was declared void in 2018, and the judgement was widely welcomed by most sections of society, especially the youth who called it a victory of love. But the fight for equal status in all areas of society is far from over. Only government intervention can ensure that members of the communities can access basic services like housing, insurance, and health care without obscuring their identities. Several rights and legal domains do not consider community members, making existence a struggle.
